Smritivan earthquake museum

Gujarat, Bhuj, India

Year: 2020

Competition | Institutional | Planning/Urban Design

The museum was inaugurated by the prime minister in 2022 to commemorate the victims of the 2001 Gujarat earthquake. The museum has been designed keeping in mind the topography, due to which the whole building functions as a ramp with landings that climb up 7 stories. The idea was to relook at the conventional museum typology by creating a stepped public plaza in between which allowed for moments of pause and reflection.
